App “DiagAuto AI: OBD2 Scanner” (Android) and the diagautoai.eu site. Last updated: October 2, 2026.
1. In brief
- No account, no advertising, no usage statistics, and your location is never read.
- The data read from your vehicle stays on your phone.
- It leaves it only in four cases, always on your initiative: when you use the AI, when you look up your vehicle's model online, when you send us feedback, or when you share a PDF report.
- The diagautoai.eu site sets no cookies.
- We do not sell any data.
2. Who is responsible
The data controller is the publisher of the app, presented in the legal notice.
Contact: contact@diagautoai.eu
3. What stays on your phone
This data is saved only on your phone; we have no access to it:
- Your garage: the vehicles you save (make, model, year, fuel, engine, mileage, and the vehicle identification number, or VIN, if it was read or entered).
- Your diagnosis history: the fault codes read, the AI's explanations, the conversations with the AI, and the vehicle information at the time of the diagnosis.
- Your used-car visits (“Buying a used car” section): the name you give to the visit, the checked checklist, your comments, the VIN from the registration document and the odometer mileage if you enter them, and the results of the check-up of the car visited.
- A technical log: the exchanges between the app and the OBD adapter (without the VIN), the screens opened and the errors, limited to the most recent uses. It leaves your phone only with a feedback message that you choose to send (see part 7).
- Your professional contact details, if you enter them to have them printed on your PDF reports.
- Your settings: language, units, display preferences.
You can delete a vehicle, a diagnosis or a visit in the app, or erase everything by uninstalling the app. Depending on your phone's settings, Android may back up this data to your Google account: this backup is managed by Google.
4. The connection to your vehicle
- Bluetooth: the app connects to the OBD2 adapter you have paired, or looks for nearby Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) adapters. For this it asks for the “Nearby devices” permission. It never infers your location from the devices found.
- Android 11 and earlier versions: on these versions, Android requires the location permission to search for Bluetooth Low Energy devices. The app requests it only for this search, and never reads your location.
- Wi-Fi: with a Wi-Fi adapter, the app communicates with it over the local network that you joined in your phone's settings. Nothing is sent elsewhere.
- Saved adapters: the name and technical address of the BLE adapters already used, and the list of devices you removed from the connection screen, are saved on your phone only.
- No reprogramming: the app reads the fault codes, the measurements and the vehicle information, without ever reprogramming the control units or changing a setting. The only action possible is clearing the engine fault codes (a standard OBD2 function), only when you ask for it and confirm it.
5. When you use the AI
Nothing is sent until you use an AI function. When you do, the app sends to our intermediate server only the data needed for the answer:
| Function | Data sent |
|---|---|
| Explain a code | The fault code, the vehicle description (make, model, year, fuel, engine), the measurements and the data at the time of the fault if they were read |
| Diagnosis by symptom | Your description of the problem, the vehicle description, and the measurements taken if you started monitoring |
| Chat | Your messages, the previous answers in the conversation, the vehicle description, its fault codes and measurements, and the VIN if it was read |
| Service light reset | Make, model, year and fuel |
The language of the app is also sent, so that the AI answers you in your language.
⚠️ Do not write personal information (name, address, license plate) in the chat or in the description of a symptom: it would be sent along with the rest.
Our intermediate server, hosted by Cloudflare, prepares the request and forwards it to Anthropic (Claude), which generates the answer. It does not record the content of your requests. To prevent abuse, it temporarily uses your IP address to limit the number of requests per minute. Anthropic and Cloudflare process this data according to their own policies (Anthropic, Cloudflare) and may process it outside the European Union, with the safeguards provided by their terms.
6. When you look up your vehicle's model online
After reading the VIN, you can ask the app to look up the exact model of your vehicle. This lookup takes place only after your consent, requested each time: the VIN is then sent to the public database of the NHTSA, the US road safety agency (vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov), which returns the corresponding model.
7. When you send us feedback
From the app, you can report a problem or an AI answer that seems wrong to you. The app then prepares a file (app and Android version, adapter type, vehicle and mileage, fault codes, AI answers, and your comment) and sends it through your email app to contact@diagautoai.eu. The VIN appears in it only if you tick the option provided yourself. Nothing is sent without you confirming the email. We use this feedback only to fix and improve the app, and keep it for two years at most.
This file also contains a technical log: your phone's model, the commands sent to the OBD adapter and its responses with their response time, the screens opened, and the errors or crashes of the app. It contains no VIN (masked), no location, no contacts, no conversation with the AI. This log is kept on your phone (only the most recent uses) and leaves it only with a feedback message that you choose to send.
8. When you share a PDF report
PDF reports are created on your phone. They leave your phone only if you share them yourself, with the people or apps that you choose.
9. Purchases (coming)
Purchases in the app will go through Google Play. We do not see your payment methods. This policy will be updated before purchases open.
10. The diagautoai.eu site: no cookies
- The site sets no cookies and uses no analytics tool, no advertising and no social network button.
- It calls on no external service: everything it displays, including fonts, is hosted with the site. Your browser therefore contacts no site other than diagautoai.eu.
- Like any host, Cloudflare processes the technical data needed to display the pages and protect the site against attacks (IP address, browser type), according to its privacy policy. We do not use them.
- If you write to us, we use your email address only to reply to you.
11. What we do not do
- We neither sell nor rent any data.
- We do not display advertising and use no tracking tool.
- We do not collect your location.
- We do not ask you to create an account.
12. Legal bases (GDPR)
- AI answers, model lookup: performance of the service you request (Article 6.1.b).
- Feedback you send us: our legitimate interest in fixing and improving the app (Article 6.1.f).
- Limiting abuse on the intermediate server: our legitimate interest in protecting the service (Article 6.1.f).
13. Children
The app is intended for drivers. It knowingly collects no data concerning children.
14. Your rights
You can request access to, rectification or erasure of the data concerning you, or object to its processing, by writing to contact@diagautoai.eu. As we have no user accounts and do not keep the content of your requests to the AI, we can act only on the data we actually hold, such as feedback sent by email. You can also lodge a complaint with the CNIL (cnil.fr).
To delete your data yourself, see the Delete your data page.
15. Changes
This policy may change, in particular when purchases open. The date of the last update appears at the top of the page.
